Shelter Happenings

We are proud to announce that Rebecca’s Tent is compiling a cookbook to honor all of the wonderful cooks who have graciously and generously provided meals for the shelter since 1983.  Our special cookbook will, also, be a way to raise funds for  this landmark Shelter.

Makeover Day!

The ladies at the Shearith Israel Shelter for Homeless Women enjoy some rare pampering.  The 13 women, who range in age from 27 to 62, were treated to haircuts, hair color, manicures and cosmetic makeovers at the Allie J Salon in Sandy Springs.  Shelter supporters Ellen and Dan Katz arranged this special day on a Sunday, when the salon was normally closed, so that the staff could devote their time to shelter residents.“This was an enormous treat for the women,” said Shearith Israel Shelter Executive Director Sallie Weddell.  “They spend their time working or looking for work and trying to make positive changes in their lives, so this was a very rare and wonderful gift for each of them.”
